The Winkie

Let me tell you a story about a young man who unknowingly earned the nickname "The Winkie".  You see,  not so long ago said young man had taken a liking to a young woman in his school.  During this time he and the young woman were involved in their school's production of "The Wizard of Oz" and he had been cast as the Winkie General.  Certain individuals in the young woman's family had, in times past, earned various nicknames, thru no fault of their own.  They just came out and were forever stuck.  And it so happened that during this time it became known to one of the young woman's family members that his role in the play was that of the Winkie General.  Why it came out, one may never know - but once he was called "the Winkie" it stuck and from that day forward he is rarely called by his real name among her family.  The poor soul has no idea, but he is not alone, there are countless other's who have had nicknames bestowed upon them without their consent.  I suppose they could start a support group - Unwanted Nicknames Anonymous.  Ricky Bobby could join that group...but that's another man, with another story, for another time...
